To celebrate the versatility of the Lusitano – and recognise the achievements of our members’ horses – the Lusitano Breed Society has introduced a series of performance awards. They are open to pure and part bred Lusitanos and Cruzados owned by LBSGB members, competing in any discipline in any event – from local unaffiliated competitions to national affiliated championships, international competitions and the Lusitano Breed Show. Each discipline has its own league table. Points are awarded according to placings, regardless of the level of competition, achieved between 1st January and 31st December of each year. There are extra points for winning a Championship.

The award is for the horse rather than the rider – providing the horse is owned by a member, all results count, whether achieved by the owner or other rider(s), who do not have to be a society member.

At the end of the year, the horse with the most points in each league will receive a rosette and title – Lusitano Show Horse of the Year; Lusitano Dressage Horse of the Year; Lusitano Working Equitation Horse of the Year; Lusitano Trec Horse of the Year; Lusitano Mounted Games Horse of the Year – still waiting to receive entries for Lusitano Showjumper of the Year; Lusitano Eventer of the Year; Lusitano Endurance Horse of the Year; Lusitano Driving Horse of the Year; (plus any other discipline – are there any Lusos out there playing polo or horseball, for example?).

The horse gaining the most points overall – adding together points achieved in all disciplines – will be awarded the title Lusitano Performance Horse of the Year, with a rosette to go with it. And the horse gaining the most points in the largest number of disciplines will be awarded the Versatility Horse of the Year rosette.

The runner up in each league will receive a reserve Horse of the Year rosette.
